Happy and Quaix qualify for ESWC
The Russian leg of the ESWC qualification circuit kicked off today in Moscow, the heart of Russia, featuring a plethora of disciplines including Warcraft III, Quake III, Counter-Strike (Male & Female), DotA and Trackmania.
Unsurprisingly, Dmitriy “Happy” Kostin, of German based Mousesports, emerged victorious after a day of intense match-ups between the bulk of Russia’s finest.
Kostin was able to glide through the upper bracket utilizing his superior mirror match against both of n!faculty’s representatives Boris “Quaix” Lekontsev and Maxim “SDmK” Babarcev.
A first round win over a sloppy Andrey “Deadman” Sobolev gave Kostin his first bracket win, playing orc both matches Sobolev really seemed out of his element, resorting both games to a raider hit and run strategy which failed miserably on both occasions. More often than not just handing Happy free experience while taking his sweet time backing out.
Lekontsev was able to make it as far as Happy in the upper stage before being knocked down to the lower bracket. Some great play by Quaix helped him push by some tough competitors, like Neytpoh of Serious and teammate SDmK.
Having secured the first place finish Happy won himself a ticket to the ESWC Grand Final in San Jose, California later in the year, Quaix will join him as the second Russian seed for his efforts.
Additionally, Anton “Cooller” Singov and NIKE won themselves the two Quake III berths, while ForZe and Shara.bros have secured the two female Counter-Strike positions.
