MeetYourMakers win WC3L
Today marked the end of the grueling several month process that is the WC3L. Meet Your Makers have been crowned the champions after a nail biting victory over winner bracket finalists Mousesports.
Chance had more to do with Mousesports’ participation than anything else, but luck had little to do with their performance this weekend where they were able to beat World Elite and Meet Your Makers as they blazed a path to the grand finals.
After the team released Kim “SaSe” Hammar just days before the event rumors spread quickly that the team was to be disbanded. As a result the team was expected to flop at the event however, pegging the team as the underdogs was surely an oversight on someone’s part.
Stunning performances from Yoan “ToD” Merlo and Wei Liang “Fly100%” Lu helped see the team all the way to the grand final. The omission of Hammar and Dmitriy “Happy” Kostin didn’t seem to hurt the team much at all. Granted, Yu Jian “Yumiko” Kai may not have been able to win one solo match, but taking on Manuel “Grubby” Schenkhuizen three times in a row would do well to tarnish the most pristine record.
An out of shape Jae Ho “Moon” Jang also cast a shadow over MYM’s potential for success, but a strong PGL performance from the Korean helped quell any doubt. E-sports World Cup champion Seong Deok “SoJu” Lee met the full brunt of the fifth races might not once, but twice through out the process, losing both games.
The inescapable question of top orc was left inconclusive once again with June “Lyn” Park and Grubby going head to head twice taking one game a piece while Mousesports’ resident orc, Fly100%, was able to win all of his matches including one against current KODE5 champion Xuwen “InFi” Wang.
The final between the two veritable titans of the event was as close as they come with both matches coming down to the two on two games. Grubby and Moon were able to carry their team to victory throughout the grand finals winning both of their solo matches and their two on two’s on top of that.
This is Meet Your Makers second (2006 & 2008) WC3L championship title, MYM now hold both the current WC3L and NGL championship titles.
