ESWC Masters seedings released
The Electronic Sports World Cup committee today released the seeding arrangements for the upcoming Masters of Paris event, which will take place between July 4th & July 6th at the Palais Omnisports arena in Paris, France.
The event will feature competitions across five competitive platforms including Counter-Strike 1.6 (Male & female), WarCraft III, Quake III, DOTA and Trackmania.
Sixteen participants from around the world have been invited to participate in each discipline, four of the top French players for each game have also been invited to compete. Cash prizes as well as accommodation and airfare to the ESWC grand finals will be awarded to the winners, the finals will be held in San Jose, California, later in the year.
The ESWC has decided to divide the participants into three categories, two seeded pools and one non-seeded pool, labeled the challenger pool.
The event is comprised of four groups each with five participants, the groups will house one top seed player, one high seed player and three challengers. The first and second ranked player within each group will advance to the next stage of competition.
Several seeding decisions are now subject to debate with Seo Woo “ReiGn” Kang being seeded above Manuel “Grubby” Schenkhuizen and Yoan “ToD” Merlo. The seeding for Jae Wook “Lucifer” Noh is also being scrutinized given his previous accomplishments. Noh was the ESWC 2006 champion, making the decision to seed him bottom, while the lesser accomplished Kang is seeded in the top group, a questionable decision.
The official groups will be drawn the afternoon of Monday, 30th June. The seeds are as follows:
